Home

For Ward Three.
For Melrose.

Melrose has been my home for nearly 30 years, and I look forward to serving this vibrant community.

As a family man and father of an eleven-year-old, I see great opportunities for our city and want to focus my energies on steering the course for the future.

I chose to move into Melrose shortly after college because of the great location, accessible downtown, and small-town atmosphere. The evolution of Melrose from a “hidden gem” to one of the most desired places to live in the greater Boston area has been an incredible event to witness. With this growth, there are challenges that the city continues to face, including increasing demands on the school system, aging infrastructure, traffic safety and appropriate housing development.

I have a keen interest in representing the community for important issues that will come to light in the coming year. A portion of my energies will be devoted to encouraging continued local economic development, pressing for fiscal responsibility and accountability to the town budget and tax override, and determining best use of the Beebe School while advocating for neighborhood K-5 elementary schools.

My career has given me the skills required to be an effective alderman, including leadership, strong listening skills, summarizing diverse issues, finding common ground in negotiations, mastering complex financial and budgetary arrangements, and providing clear communications.

I’m seeking the Ward 3 Alderman position to make a difference in the community. Fresh ideas, initiative and passion are qualities I will contribute to the Board of Aldermen (soon to be City Council), as well as the commitment to work diligently on difficult issues. I pledge to be transparent, to communicate clearly and frequently, be accessible and represent the interests of the people of Ward 3.

Over the next several months, I will be visiting with my Ward 3 neighbors, hearing ideas and concerns about Melrose, and sharing my thoughts about how we can continue to improve our city.

I look forward to meeting my neighbors in Ward 3 and to earning your vote on November 5th, 2019.

Policy Areas of Interest

fiscal responsibility

There are four areas I will prioritize with the passing of the override and anticipated changes in the local administration.

  1. The Override, and its impact on school budget

  2. Effective use and management of discretionary funds

  3. The Library overhaul, and its mix of state and local funding

  4. Water & Sewer cost control

Prudence and accountability will be critical to assure that Melrose will be effective in maintaining a balanced budget, addressing the demands of various departments, and continuing to keep a strong bond rating. I will be focused on understanding the details of the annual budget and push for measurable outcomes for funded programs and initiatives.

advocating for education

As a parent of a child entering middle school, I see the great potential that our children have in continuing their education through the Melrose public school system. Some areas I will focus on include:

  • Working with the school committee to understand and promote balanced allocation of funds while keeping within budgetary limits.

  • Addressing the high turnover of school administration and understand how this situation can be improved.

  • Supporting neighborhood schools and keeping students close to home in their primary school years. Ward 3 currently does not have a neighborhood school, so I want to be a part of the upcoming discussions about the future of the Beebe School, and the role in can play in our neighborhood.

business development

A robust business infrastructure within the city provides local jobs, increases tax revenues, and provides a better standard of living. There are many ways to improve upon the commercial interests in Melrose I would like to explore incentives to attract small businesses into Melrose, continue to modernize commercial districts, and explore options with state and federal funding to invest in new ventures.

collaboration and COmmunication

I will be accessible, transparent and communicative to all residents of Ward Three. I want to hear about common themes that are recurring within the neighborhood and be the voice to reach the local administration for facilitating issues, questions and needs in the community, with an emphasis on the elderly and special needs. I will be available through multiple channels, including email, website and phone.

infrastructure

Melrose’s aging infrastructure will continue to be a high priority topic for years to come. I believe it is important to communicate to residents the current condition of our infrastructure, and share plans, finance strategies, and timelines for infrastructure improvements. I will work with city administration to develop a robust response protocol for when our infrastructure fails, and ask that this protocol be shared with the public.

Our Neighborhood

Ward Three is a unique part of Melrose and I am excited to keep the beauty while modernizing our ability to get around safely. Traffic safety, road conditions and parking are all issues I have heard about in our neighborhood and will require my ongoing attention as Alderman.

I will represent the community in expressing best use for the Beebe school while promoting neighborhood schooling.

As an avid cyclist, I want to provide safe access to the roads in Melrose for all modes of transportation without compromising safety. One of the attractiveness of the town is its ‘walkability’ and I will strive to maintain safe pedestrian access across Ward Three and toward downtown.

The evolution of Melrose from a ‘hidden gem’ to one of the most desired places to live in the greater Boston area has been an incredible event to witness.
